[ In the morning of the Sunsui festival, Ruby will a package with her name on it. It contains the cutest sewing kit Riko could only find a few days ago. Worried that she might have bought one already, Riko wasn't sure if it's such a good idea at least until she remembered that they might eventually go back to the hub island.

Besides, they say the more the merrier. There's also a short message for Ruby from Riko:

Ruby-chan, Merry Sunsui! You were fantastic yesterday and I'm still amazed how cute our costumes turned out. I hope that you'll like this little gift, I tried my Rubesty to get you something that you'll like.

[ They should all still be able to communicate just as well as before but like she's getting super nervous the longer this takes. ]

[ there's a bit of static between their link, but even that isn't enough to mask that her voice is weak to begin with. ]

[ Amanda swallows. Even through the static she sounds worn out. ]

How you holdin' up down there kid?

[ the answer to that is Not Good, but ruby has enough wits about her to know that an answer like that will just worry anyone who asks. it's probably obvious enough anyway, but her voice comes through the link sounding somewhat choked up. ]

I'm... okay.

( Emil's kind of out of the loop with the whole kidnapping scenario, which...forgive him for being perhaps a bit naive to the severity of things. However, he did see her name scroll by on the list of those taken.

Hmm...checking in wouldn't hurt, would it? )

Emil-san...

[ though ruby's voice is normally energized and alert, the way that she replies has none of that. a reflection of her mental state, her reply is soft and exhausted-sounding - she's just been thrown back into her cell from a bout of testing. needless to say, it wasn't good. ]

I'm... It hurts... a lot.

( You don't have to know Ruby very well to be able to tell something...is up. Of course being held by the government isn't a great thing, but hurting? He's...a little too naive to think such a thing could occur? )

It hurts? Where? What's happening?

They poked my arms with needles, and- [ there's a whimper. ] and they put stuff in them...

[ she has no idea what it was, but it's making her body hurt. it's all that she can think about. ]

[ jade doesn't know if anyone listens to them when they talk. this has struck her recently, and as loathe as she is to admit it, it's a possibility they have to consider. so when she rouses ruby in the middle of the night with her good arm, it's accompanied by flashing lime green text via their telepathic link. ]

ruby! ruby! have you heard...from madoka??

[ sleep isn't coming nearly as easy to ruby as it normally does, but any sort of rest is welcome. she had managed to drift off for a couple of hours before jade rouses her, the green text flashing making her shut her eyes tight in reflex. ]

[ her thoughts are a little scrambled from sleep, but as she rubs her eyes and begins to wake up, jade's worried expression registers with her. ]

they took her stuff
and she is acting strange and saying i have to get her ring back for her
now she will not answer me!

[ jade's unaware of whatever properties are in madoka's ring, after all. ]

[ that's definitely strange. ruby had noticed the ring before (thanks to its pretty pink gem), but also isn't aware of any properties it may have. as far as ruby knows, madoka is as normal as she is. ]

maybe they took her away for a test?

[ will the testing never end? it certainly doesn't feel that way, to be honest. every fiber of his being feels sore and he feels completely exhausted. he needs some kind of distraction, someone to talk to for a little while. akira's his first choice, but he doesn't want to deal with the inteference today so he decides to ping someone a little closer. ]

Kurosawa-san?

[ the pain from her most recent test is beginning to subside, but the burn mark that it's left on her wrist likely isn't going to heal any time soon. she's tied it haphazardly with a piece of fabric, but it's no band-aid. ]

Mm.

[ it's a short acknowledgement, but it's all she can manage. ]

...If you're not too worn out, would you mind talking to me for a little while? I need a distraction.

[ oh, thank god it's more than just static. she's been desperately missing her sister's voice, and the desperation in her reply is proof of it. ]

I miss you too... More than anything...

I'm going to help the rescue efforts, so I'll be waiting for you when they come down to rescue everyone.

I know they're doing everything they can. So please....please hang in there a little longer Ruby.

[ the sound of someone in her head makes her sit up a little straighter, trying to figure out who it is without a visual. ]

Um... This is Haru-san, right?

[mapsio]

Yes, it is. Are you okay for visitors, Ruby-chan?

[Haru wants to meet her in person, annnnd maybe she has a get well gift for her!]

Ruby? This is Riza. I wanted to see how you're doing.

[ it's been a couple of days, days with the people they were separated from, and rest. riza might have passed out for two days straight, but that's besides the point. she just needs to check in to confirm. ]

Hi, Riza-san

[ things still aren't great, but it's much better to wake up from nightmares in a cozy bed with her sister than in the cold cell that they were in. she appreciates riza checking up on her - she still sounds tired, but it's more content than painfully exhausted. ]

I'm okay. Sis is taking care of me... She made me promise to stay in bed.

[efface]

[ ruby probably can't see it!!!! but riza is smiling, feeling a little more at ease just knowing that pain and exhaustion that used to be in ruby's voice is gone now. ]

I'm glad- your sister is very smart. Rest is the best thing for you right now.
